Gemini AI in Google Drive

Gemini is now built into Drive, turning it from a storage locker into a thinking partner. Here is how to use it:

  • Chat with your PDF: Right-click a PDF or lengthy report and select “Ask Gemini.” You can then ask: “What are the 3 main risks mentioned in this contract?”
  • Cross-File Summaries: Select 3-4 different documents and ask Gemini to “Summarize the common themes between these project files.”
  • Natural Search: Instead of remembering filenames, just type: “Show me the budget spreadsheets Gloria sent last March.”

Google Drive on Mobile

The Drive mobile app has a few hidden tricks that make managing files on the go effortless.

  • Document Scanner (iOS/Android): Tap the Camera icon or the “+” button to scan physical receipts or contracts. Drive automatically crops them and saves them as PDFs.
  • Drag & Drop (iPad): On iPad, you can drag a file from the Drive app directly into Gmail or Notes to attach it instantly.
  • Offline Access: Long-press important files and select “Make available offline” so you can view them on the subway or plane without Wi-Fi.
