Chrome 155 Stable Security Update Patches Critical CVE
Chrome 155 Stable just got a security update. Google is rolling out version 155.0.8059.84/.85 on Windows and Mac, and 155.0.8059.84 on Linux, with 10 security fixes. The same build is landing on Chrome for Android.
This is a patch release, not a feature drop. If you already use Chrome 155, update as soon as it reaches your device. Full details are in the Chrome Releases Stable Channel note.
What versions are shipping
Desktop Stable: 155.0.8059.84/.85 for Windows and Mac, and 155.0.8059.84 for Linux. Google says the update will roll out over the coming days and weeks.
Chrome for Android: 155.0.8059.84 is on Google Play and will become available over the next few days. Per the Chrome Releases October index, Android builds carry the same security fixes as the matching desktop Stable release unless noted.
Security fixes in this Stable update
Note: Google often keeps bug details restricted until most users have the fix. That is normal for Chrome security releases.
Who gets this update
How to update Chrome
On desktop: open Chrome, go to Settings, then About Chrome. Chrome checks for updates and restarts into the new build when it is ready.
On Android: open the Google Play Store, find Chrome, and tap Update if it is available.
On a Chromebook or Googlebook: system updates usually land through ChromeOS settings. Browser security patches follow Google’s Stable channel schedule.
Our take
Update soon: a Critical use after free in Prerender is enough reason to take the Stable patch. This post is only about the Oct 15 security release. For Chrome 155 feature news on Googlebook, see our earlier guide on expanded web app installs in Chrome 155.
