Google Universal Cart Launches in the US Across Search and Gemini

Share

Google Universal Cart is rolling out in the United States today. It is an intelligent shopping cart that works across Google Search and the Gemini app, so you can save products from many retailers in one place instead of juggling tabs and screenshots.

Google previewed the cart earlier this year. The U.S. launch, detailed on the Google Shopping blog and covered by 9to5Google, arrives just ahead of the holiday shopping season.

Key Takeaways: Universal Cart
U.S. rollout: available across Google Search and the Gemini app starting Oct 15, 2026.
Multi-retailer cart: save items from different stores and pick up where you left off later.
Smart savings: Shopping Graph price and stock alerts, promo codes, and Wallet card-perk suggestions.
Trusted checkout: pay with Google Pay in the cart, or transfer items to the merchant cart. Merchants stay the seller of record.

1. One cart for products from many stores

Save as you browse: Universal Cart is built for how people already shop on Google. You can save a handbag from Steve Madden in AI Mode in Search, then later add a sweater from Quince and lip gloss from Ulta Beauty in the Gemini app. Those items stay in your cart when you come back.

Less tab chaos: Google positions the cart as a cleaner alternative to open tabs and screenshots when you are comparing products across retailers.

2. Price drops and back-in-stock alerts

Shopping Graph powered: the cart sits on Google’s Shopping Graph, which Google says covers 60+ billion continually refreshed product listings.

Background watching: it can notify you about price drops or when an out-of-stock item becomes available again, so you do not have to keep checking every store yourself.

3. Promo codes and card perk suggestions

Hidden savings: Universal Cart can surface relevant promo codes right in the cart.

Wallet integration: because it is built on Google Wallet, Google says the cart can understand your card perks and help you choose between payment methods when one card offers a better deal.

4. Checkout with Google Pay or on the merchant site

Two paths: check out securely with Google Pay inside the cart at many stores, or transfer your items to the merchant’s own cart and finish on their site.

Merchant stays in charge: either way, you get confirmations and customer support from the merchant, and they remain the seller of record. Checkout is powered by the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP).

Where you can use it

Search and Gemini: Google says Universal Cart is rolling out in the U.S. across Google Search and in the Gemini app. That includes saving from AI Mode in Search and from Gemini conversations.

U.S. only for now: 9to5Google notes the feature is U.S.-only at launch. Availability outside the United States has not been announced.

Our take

Handy for Chromebook shoppers: if you already compare products in Chrome, Search, or Gemini on a Chromebook or Googlebook, one shared cart with price alerts is useful ahead of the holidays. Just remember checkout still ends with the merchant as seller of record. For more on Gemini itself, see our Gemini Argon guide.
